Each month this groups meets to discuss literary classics.  The November book is Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.  The story concerns a young, wealthy, Indian monk's journey toward wisdom culminating with the birth of a new philosophy. It is often taught in high schools and college literature courses.  Siddhartha became the Buddha of Buddhism, one of the world's largest and most far reaching religions.  Though his life is mythical and legendary, Siddhartha is based on a historical personage said to have lived in the 4th century BCE.  Hesse composed this short novel in simple beautiful prose.  It was first published in 1922 and remains a classic of modern period literature.
