Join us for a reception for Photovoice: An NIH Study in Asian American Communities, an eye-opening exhibition that highlights the powerful intersection of photography, personal storytelling, and community-driven research. Come meet the Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan faculty members behind this project, hear the stories behind the images, and learn more about how firearm violence impacts our communities. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect, reflect, and contribute to the conversation. Light refreshments will be served.
About the Photovoice Exhibit:
This exhibit is part of an NIH-funded study, Adaptable Community-Engaged Intervention for Violence Prevention: Michigan Model, led by Eastern Michigan University’s Center for Health Disparities Innovations and Studies (CHDIS) and the University of Michigan.
The project focuses on addressing firearm violence in Asian communities in Southeast Michigan by engaging community members in the process of storytelling through the lens of photography. By using photovoice—a method that blends visual imagery with personal reflections—participants have shared their unique perspectives on the root causes and protective factors related to firearm violence in their neighborhoods.
Through these captivating images, you will witness the powerful narratives and lived experiences of individuals who are directly impacted by this pressing issue. This exhibit serves as a call to action to reflect, engage, and collaborate as we work together to create safer, more resilient communities in Michigan.
